I have always been a great believer in looking around and taking stock of things that people about me have that are lacking in my life—I am not speaking of material things but of those things that God created free so that each of us can have them if we wish—things that we do not have to pay money for.

In doing this looking around I find that people ... who are Christian Scientists seem to be getting things out of life that I am missing. They have a serenity—be they rich or poor—a happiness that I sometimes find it difficult to maintain....
