In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 400), we read, "When we remove disease by addressing the disturbed mind, giving no heed to the body, we prove that thought alone creates the suffering." This was proved to me years ago when I read Science and Health for the first time.

From girlhood I had been a member of an orthodox church. Having implicit confidence in the pastor, I let him do my thinking for me, and owing to what he said about Christian Science I became very antagonistic toward it. One day, while I was talking with another member of my church, the topic of our conversation was Mrs. Eddy. Neither of us was speaking very kindly of her, when I seemed to hear a voice saying to me, "What do you know about Christian Science?" For days I heard those words, and thought much about them. I considered myself an intelligent woman, yet I was not informed about that which I so bitterly condemned, so I decided to go to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. My neighbor had as a guest a Christian Scientist, whose mother had been healed of an incurable disease. She invited me to go with her to one of the large churches in New York City.

Upon entering the auditorium I was immediately impressed with what I saw and heard. I listened carefully to the many testimonies, and at once saw that these people had something I did not have, and I longed for that which they possessed.
