Prayer for Loved Ones

Dear God, I love them so!

And yet my very love ofttimes would seem
To bind and limit them Thou madest free,
Would burden them with fears and pettiness,
With anxious hopes and selfish human plans
That have nor source nor counterpart in Thee.

Thou Father-Mother Love—
Their Father-Mother Love no less than mine—
Help me remember that Thou art their stay,
Guide and defender, fortress, rock, and shield,
Tower of strength, supplier of their need,
Governing them, directing all their paths,
Holding them perfect in Thy boundless love.

This be my prayer:
Teach me to love with love so like to Thine,
Naught shall I want for them save Thy dear will;
Let me no burden add, no limit place;
Let me no selfish thought on them impose.
Knowing Thy love doth bind us all to Thee,
Each with the other, then, is one in Love,
Finding a bond, but never bondage there!

Dear God, I love them so!
Teach me to love!
