My attention has been drawn to the report of a sermon...

West Middesex Gazette

My attention has been drawn to the report of a sermon preached recently, in which the clergyman referred to Christian Science.

Christian Scientists are not in the category in which the clergyman places them, nor are they sentimentalists. Christian Science is the reinstatement of primitive Christianity, and includes neither human philosophy nor contradictory theology. The attempt to attribute a material universe to God, Spirit, is contradictory and illogical from the outset. Effect must be like its cause. God expresses Himself through the spiritual, and in the spiritual sense of being, sin, sickness, and death do not exist. Man made in God's image and likeness, as recorded in Genesis, is not an imperfect mortal, but the ideal man of which Jesus was conscious when he healed the sick and freed the sinner. The mortal is dropped for the immortal through spiritual understanding. This was the way of Jesus—a way of triumph and victory, a way which enabled him to declare, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."
