The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Asheville, North Carolina (First Church).

Lecturer: William W. Porter; introduced by Loyal P. Lindsey, who said:—

We find in the Scriptures many promises; and for ages men and women have wondered if these promises were for a select few and for a period long past. From the time I began to study the Bible in the light of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I have seen many fulfillments of the promise of Christ Jesus, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." At one of the first services I attended at a Christian Science church, many years ago, I experienced an instantaneous healing of the effects of poison ivy that had caused me to limp with pain. Several years later, when in France, I awoke one night with every symptom of influenza. Turning instantly to God for my healing, I found Him indeed "a very present help in trouble," for I was quickly healed; in fact, there was not the slightest trace of the influenza the next morning. Christian Science had taught me how to avail myself of God's law, which, when understood, can be applied with certain results by everyone. For over half a century there has accumulated indisputable evidence in proof that Christian Science, when rightly understood, fulfills the Christ-mission in healing the sick, reforming the sinner, and bringing joy to the sorrowful.
