In a recent issue of your paper an article under the heading "Was Jesus a Reformer?" contains this sentence: "Christian Science, falsely so called, teaches that Mrs. Eddy was sent to give the world the true light." This statement, in the light of the rest of the article, seems clearly intended to give the impression that Christian Scientists think Mary Baker Eddy has in some manner taken the place of Jesus, and that her teachings are different from those of Jesus. Those who through the study and application of Christian Science have been healed of disease, after being given up by physicians, or saved from sin, when generally believed beyond redemption, know for a certainty that Mrs. Eddy did not contradict or displace the teachings and life of Jesus, but caused men once again to see them in their "true light." Jesus gave the test of discipleship as casting out devils or evils and healing the sick, and Mark tells us the disciples confirmed "the word with signs following." Such is the teaching and such is the practice of Christian Science. In reinstating and requiring of her followers such proof of their Christianity, Mrs. Eddy established herself as a meek and humble disciple of Christ Jesus. Furthermore, on page 34 of her Message to The Mother Church for 1901, Mrs. Eddy says, "Follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ." In conclusion, as each person comes to lay aside his prejudice so as to learn of its healing and regenerative power, he knows that Christian Science is not "falsely so called;" for to know and demonstrate the truth as taught by Jesus, must be essentially scientific and Christian.
