In a recent issue of the Daily News there is an article entitled "Christian Science and Prohibition." This article states that "a split has occurred in the camps of the Christian Scientists as an outcome of prohibition." May I, please, be allowed to correct the statement? No split has occurred in the Christian Science church over the question of prohibition. Christian Scientists, not only in America, but all over the world, stand for strict prohibition. On pages 288 and 289 of "Miscellaneous Writings" Mary Baker Eddy says: "Whatever intoxicates a man, stultifies and causes him to degenerate physically and morally. Strong drink is unquestionably an evil, and evil cannot be used temperately: its slightest use is abuse; hence the only temperance is total abstinence." And on pages 219 and 128 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" she writes: "I do say that Christian Science cannot annul nor make void the laws of the land." "Christian Scientists abide by the laws of God and the laws of the land." Could there be stronger words for prohibition or for abiding by the laws of the land?

The only authorized Christian Science periodical literature is that published by The Christian Science Publishing Society in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
