[Original testimony in German]

The first time I heard of Christian Science, in 1911, not...

The first time I heard of Christian Science, in 1911, not knowing anything about it I turned away from it. A short time afterwards I was appointed soloist of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hamburg, Germany. I endeavored to solve my problems by human will, until I woefully suffered shipwreck. At one of my first concerts as a young concert singer I was seized with fear—so-called stagefright—to such an extent that I thought I should die. But in spite of this the concert passed without anything happening,—yes, a critic even wrote well of me,—and the next day I hurried to a loving practitioner, who taught me to recognize that "perfect love casteth out fear."

Several errors, mental and physical, disappeared like mist before the sun of Truth. I was healed of severe gallstone pains, the grippe, and colds; and a wound on my hand, which I received in the garden from a garden tool, disappeared almost instantaneously after I had declared the "scientific statement of being," as given by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 468). In these days of depression we should be especially conscious of Immanuel, "God with us;" and "if God be for us, who can be against us?"

The past year was full of blessings for me. I became a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hamburg, Germany, and of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. This membership fills me with great gratitude and joy, and it is my desire to be an earnest Christian Scientist. I thank our all-loving Father-Mother God, therefore, that He led me to Christian Science, which has opened my eyes and shown me true Christianity. I am grateful to infinite Mind for inspiring our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, to reveal to us Christian Science. I am grateful to divine Love for permitting me to find the practitioner who smoothed for me the way to understanding.—(Miss) Margarethe Janda, Hamburg, Germany.
