I wish to express gratitude for the life of our beloved...

I wish to express gratitude for the life of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, because she was pure and unselfish enough to discover and found Christian Science. A few years ago I was striving to overcome a hasty temper, but it was not until I heard of and applied Christian Science that, through God's help, I succeeded in gaining dominion.

Christian Science was a great help to me during the war, and I feel grateful for the protective work that was done at home for us. One outstanding benefit that I received through this experience was that I became willing to let divine Mind govern. It was a comfort to realize this truth when rumors of moving were being circulated,—to know that "neither ... height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Relying on this assurance, I was protected; and it was most helpful to realize that, as Mrs. Eddy says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 290), "Divine Love is never so near as when all earthly joys seem most afar."

While in training I was healed of gallstones. Although in a military hospital where medical treatment was compulsory, after one day I was removed to the surgical ward for an operation, and consequently was given no more medicine. Before the operation could be performed, having written to a practitioner for help, I was healed on the third day, thus escaping the operation. The second time I was vaccinated, by realizing that man is separate from matter there was not a sign of inflammation; and in three days even the scratch marks had disappeared. I am very grateful for these healings; also, for the disappearance of a tendency to take cold frequently, and the prevention of after effects when lifting a hot kettle.
