Eight years ago I received my first two healings through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in connection with the Bible and the Christian Science Quarterly lessons. I was brought to this study by a dear friend who, seeing her neighbor's need, supplied it by the loan of her own books, and afterwards introduced me to the Christian Science Reading Room, where I could borrow or buy.

I do not remember ever having a natural action of the bowels until the light dawned upon my consciousness that man, being the image and likeness of God, naturally reflects all good; therefore every part of man is governed by God, good. This truth understood brought to my physical body such complete and harmonious action that it was ten days before I realized I had not been taking my regular laxative.

Being deeply grateful for this healing, I naturally turned more fully to the study of Christian Science. Because I had more to do than I seemed able to do, and because when I was tired I could not seem to grasp these wonderful truths, I set the alarm clock and rose an hour earlier every morning, using that hour for my study. This was a great sacrifice to my personal comfort, as seemed want to sleep through the early morning hours more than at any other time; but through this study I received my eyesight. The Scriptures, which had been obscure, were illumined; and it was not long before I was able to lay aside glasses, which I had worn for twenty years without a hope of ever being able to go without them. I had not studied for healing, and knew nothing of practitioners and their wonderful work; but I hungered and thirsted after righteousness, and was filled, as the fourth beautitude assures us we shall be.
