Goodness, Truth, and Beauty
The handwriting of the divine is ever to be seen in the good, in the true, in the beautiful, everywhere in evidence throughout God's universe. Our ability to recognize these symbols of Deity points to the fact that man is the spiritual image and likeness of the everlasting I AM. If a person can demonstrate that the sum of the three angles of a triangle is equal to the sum of two right angles, he is capable of comprehending mathematical truth. And is it not evident that a person is attuned in some measure to the beauties of music when he can listen and appreciate the uplifting harmonies of a great master?
That men are not blind to the handwriting of the divine in the good, the true, and the beautiful, is proof of God's omnipresence. But, as our Leader writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 233): "Perfection is seen and acknowledged only by degrees. The ages must slowly work up to perfection. How long it must be before we arrive at the demonstration of scientific being, no man knoweth,—not even 'the Son but the Father;' but the false claim of error continues its delusions until the goal of goodness is assiduously earned and won. Already the shadow of His right hand rests upon the hour."
The loveliness of earth and the glory of the heavens proclaim in symbolism the invisible yet sure presence of infinite Mind. Men turn aside from the evidences of God's being to fix their thoughts on the illusions of sin, sickness, and death, believing that they are real. But spiritual sense should assure them that all the phenomena of matter are nonexistent in truth and reality, that they can be no other than illusions, because they are antipodal to the very nature and being of the spiritual First Cause. The First Cause must be Life, which includes health; must be Truth, which includes all knowledge; must be Love, which embraces all beauty and harmony.
