While laboring under the burden of a great sorrow, living...
While laboring under the burden of a great sorrow, living amid conditions which seemed humanly impossible to bear, and hungry for the truth, I turned in trembling hope to our heavenly Father. Through the light of Truth reflected in such purity and strength as to be unmistakable, I was gently and lovingly drawn into Christian Science and found myself sustained by it. It has given me spiritual food, it is feeding "the famished affections" (Science and Health, p. 17); it has healed my children of many distressing conditions, among which are a heart affection, stomach and liver trouble, croup, poisoning, and rheumatism. I have applied the rules of Christian Science in the handling of an estate, and have been given courage and strength to take the right steps in working out difficult business problems. All these tests have proved to me that God is indeed an ever-present help in time of trouble.
In looking wholly to the Father, divine Principle, for guidance and comfort, as I strove to follow the narrow path which I knew to be the only way out of Egypt and the wilderness, allowing no human opinion or personality to influence me, I have not only found my real estate as a child of God, the abundance of good my only heritage, but helpful companionship has been given me. I have come out of the darkness of despair into God's own sunlight, out of the bondage of unreality into the freedom of Truth, and have found that real joy is spiritual, born of gratitude and obedience.
I write this testimony with the prayer that divine Love may send its message of help and hope to some one who feels overburdened as I once did. I am striving through obedience to Principle, and by alertness to every opportunity for the giving of good unto others, to attest my gratitude for Christian Science and for the life of Mrs. Eddy, who was loyal and unselfish enough to stand alone, as Jesus did, that the world might know salvation. I am also grateful for the kindness and help which have been given me by Scientists.—Esther Ritchie Lemon, Claremont, Cal.
