Books by the hundred have been written, theories innumerable...
Newcastle (Eng.) Mail
Books by the hundred have been written, theories innumerable have been started on the teaching of the Bible, but beyond perhaps encouraging some people to study the Bible for themselves, it could not well be said that they have benefited humanity to any extent, for they have certainly not given mankind a scientific, demonstrable method whereby they can prove that there is still a God "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Having, however, perceived the absolute, that is, the scientific or spiritual meaning of the statements of our great Master, Mrs. Eddy has been able to show mankind how it is their privilege and duty to be free from sin and sickness. To put it in another way, Mrs. Eddy, in writing "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," prepared what might be termed a commentary on the Bible, and although commentaries on the Bible had previously been written by various people, none had accomplished what Mrs. Eddy has achieved. It does seem strange, therefore, that just because Mrs. Eddy has given spiritual teaching of a real, practical nature to humanity, just because she has published a text-book the value of which is being daily proved by thousands of people, there should be found men who could write letter after letter with the object of arguing that disease cannot be cured, that sin cannot be destroyed in the only way Jesus the Christ stated most emphatically these results must be obtained.
Christian Science is a great movement in the world, and requires no advertisement beyond the natural and inevitable results of an honest investigation and application of its teaching. It will be remembered that in the case of the man quoted in St. John's gospel as being healed by Jesus of blindness, he said, in reply to the criticisms and jeers of the Pharisees, "One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see." Now it is just such an answer as this that is being given, not day by day, but many times a day throughout the world in this twentieth century, as a result of having experienced the healing power of Christian Science. And so long as these proofs are forthcoming, so long will Christian Science continue to grow, thereby proving beyond all argument that it is based upon that immutable foundation, that absolute Truth, which cannot be moved.
