An important thing necessary to an intelligent understanding of the Bible is to grasp its true mission—the imparting of spiritual understanding to mortals. It does this through the inspired writers of its books, who gave forth the light as they saw it. Their perception of truth necessarily varied with their varying degrees of spirituality, and this explains that which is sometimes referred to by critics as contradictions and inconsistencies. To careful Bible scholars, who understand the origin and expression of this grand old book, the thread of truth is always visible, although at times it seems to be closely interwoven with human misconceptions.
