In June of 1909, our fourteen-year-old boy fell eighteen feet, severely injuring his left leg just above the knee. I was "instant in prayer," as we are taught to pray in Christian Science, and hastened to him. I had telephoned my sister, a Christian Science practitioner living in another city, but it seemed best to call a surgeon and an attending physician. Both pronounced the case a serious one, and said that the boy would not be able to be out of bed for six or eight weeks, or to go to school the following winter except as he used crutches. The healing, however, progressed rapidly; there was no nausea, fever, or swelling or discoloration after the setting of the limb, which seemed marvelous to the medical attendants, and as no drugs or stimulants were used, after two visits they were dismissed. On the eighth day all splints and bandages were discarded, and within three weeks the boy was able to get about with the aid of crutches. By September he was walking to school without them,—and this was a distance of twelve blocks,—four times a day. At first he limped, but ere long the leg was perfectly normal.
I am very grateful for strength, for freedom from fear, and for the peace which came to me at that time. This is only one of many proofs we have had in the past eight years of the effectual healing power of Christian Science. Surely "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." My gratitude to God is unbounded, nor can I adequately express my thankfulness to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Mrs. Rosette K. Cave, Frankfort, Ind.
