Nowhere, I am sure, is there a family that has more...

Nowhere, I am sure, is there a family that has more reason than have we to be grateful for Christian Science. It was brought to our home about twenty years ago, at a time of great need. My father had contracted several diseases during the Civil War. He had consulted a number of physicians, and they had all agreed that it was impossible for him to be cured, as organic changes had taken place. He would gradually grow worse, they said, until the end. My mother had been an invalid for a number of years, and had also been pronounced incurable and condemned to die at any time. One sister was a victim of severe headache and another of catarrh of several years' standing, while I suffered every winter with severe throat trouble. The many acute diseases that were frequently making their appearance, in addition to the troubles already mentioned, made the services of a physician an almost constant necessity in our home.

Having tried all the various systems of materia medica, to no avail, we were ready and willing, when Christian Science came to us, to dispense with medicines entirely and try to put our trust in God. It would be difficult for me to tell how much the truth accomplished in our midst and how grateful we are for the blessings bestowed upon us,—grateful to God for giving us the truth, and grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us how to use it. Not only were we healed of all our diseases, but during the years that we have been studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and trying to apply its teachings to our every-day problems, we have been helped out of many difficulties and have been protected and shielded from many ills that might otherwise have beset us.

One of my first experiences with Christian Science was in being healed of a fever. Although I knew very little about it at that time, I had no difficulty in deciding between materia medica and Christian Science, for my mother had been healed and had become thoroughly convinced of its truth. The fever lasted less than a week and I was delirious only one night. Just as soon as I felt a desire for food, I was given anything and everything I asked for, without any bad effects. As is usually the case after a fever of this kind, my hair began to fall out in such quantities that I was advised to have it cut. Instead of doing this, however, I had Christian Science treatment; with the result that not only did the falling out stop, but new hair began to grow in very abundantly.
