In a recent issue the statement is made that "Christian Science is about to become nothing more nor less than a political faction." Christian Science is a religion. All of its activities, therefore, are of a distinctly religious character and built upon religious principles. The inauguration of The Christian Science Monitor was not for the purpose of favoring or furthering any political faction, nor indeed an endeavor to build up a strong commercial or political power. This newspaper stands for clean journalism and for all the fundamentals of primitive Christianity. It seeks only to record "the good that men do." Its advertising matter is carefully censored and nothing of a questionable character is permitted space in its columns.

The "central thought and principle" of Christian Science is the healing of sin. "The physical healing of Christian Science," Mrs. Eddy writes in the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation" (p. xi.). All of the denominational activities of the Christian Science church are in accord with this high spiritual aim to elevate, purify, and heal humanity. The Christian Science Monitor does not take sides with any political faction, nor does it stand sponsor for any of the political questions of the day, other than in an endeavor to uphold righteousness in all things. Its editorials as well as its news and advertising matter are in accordance with this aim.
