Mrs. Eddy in her ninetieth year is the trusted Leader of a million or more of people throughout the world who nonbelievers in their doctrines say in the ordinary walks of life express the best type of citizenship. This church has been built up in the past half century of thought and labor of its Leader, she who is, Life has said, "one of the most remarkable women ever born in this country."

The mayor of—assumes a great responsibility in dictating to a family of this belief how they shall worship God, and in intruding on the privacy of that family and deciding the issue of life and death within its own household. Gamaliel advised his associates, priests and rulers, against mistreatment of the followers of a new faith; that the issue had best be left with God; that if it was from God it could not be destroyed, and if from men it would die of itself. It would seem that this tolerant and considerate orthodox teacher of nineteen centuries ago might be interpreted to mean that professions and doctrines should be met with arguments and not with the brute force of the police power in the hands of the majority; that they should be met on their own ground.

Could the mayor of—guarantee a cure by the orthodox doctor that would warrant his assuming such knowledge and authority? Faith on earth is what is needed, and it must be conceded to these people that they set the example of great faith when they hazard the lives of themselves and their families on the truth of their contention. Is it more necessary to lengthen a little a short physical life than to encourage the trial and practice and growth of faith?
