It was about the time of our dear Leader's discovery of the Science of Christianity that I, then a lad of twelve or thirteen years of age, attended with my mother, all one winter, the weekly prayer-meetings of an orthodox church in the city where we lived. At the end of that winter I asked my dear mother what there was in her belief, telling her that I could not accept this religion on faith, because I had no faith. Her reply was that it would come to me some time. It was forty years in coming, and in the mean while I was wandering through the wilderness of materiality; but faith in God came to me through my wonderful healing by Christian Science. This was about four years ago.

Up to that time I had always been a very discordant mortal, mentally and physically, always running to the doctor with some ache or pain, until finally he tried to practise what he thought was a little Christian Science upon me, by telling me that there was nothing the matter with me. I was then suffering from a stomach disorder, and this remark of my doctor only discouraged me, and for some time I dropped medical treatment, until my wife, becoming alarmed, persuaded me to call upon another physician. This gentleman and his son, who had recently graduated from Johns Hopkins university, gave me a thorough examination, followed by treatment. This seemed somewhate beneficial, physically; but mentally I was in a bad condition, despondent and discouraged. Then I took a trip to Europe and was gone two or three months, but returned no better.

One of my neighbors then told me about Christian Science and asked me to try it, and at ten O'clock that morning I was at a practitioner's house, telling her about my condition. She asked me if I wanted treatment, and my reply was that I wanted relief. She gave me treatment, and from that time my improvement began. It was slow but sure, and today I am completely well, contented, and happy. I was also healed, in three days' absent treatment, of rheumatism; and in one week of an ailment for which I had worn a truss about one year and a bandage thiry years. When Christian Science found me I was in the wholesale liquor business and had been for thirty-one years. The business was very prosperous financially, but after I had gained a knowledge of this most wonderful healing truth I could no longer sell whisky, so gave it up and the place is now closed from this traffic.
