I give this testimony with sincere gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for my family and myself. My husband had been afflicted with asthmatic and bronchial trouble for over twenty years. I myself was suffering from abdominal troubles and a weak stomach, and was allowed to eat only a few things. When the physicians did not know what else to prescribe for us, they advised us to travel either to Germany or the South. For this reason we went to Europe twice, and lately went almost every winter to southern California. While coming back the last time, which was a little over two years ago, we met on the train some travelers who were on their way to Boston to attend the dedication of The Mother Church. They were very nice people, and we became acquainted with some of them. One lady asked me why we went to California every winter, and I told her that the physician had advised it for our health. She then told me there was a Christian Science church in Chicago, one block from where we lived, and that if I should go there and ask for the address of a practitioner, that I would nevermore need to take any journeys for my health. After we arrived home I did go to that church, and found a practitioner, who gave me Christian Science treatment. In three weeks I was healed of all my ailments, and I have been well ever since.

When I came to America I was over fourteen years of age, and did not go to school here, therefore I did not learn to read English, but by the advice of my practitioner I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and other Christian Science literature. I began to read and study these books, and to-day I can read English quite well. It is now two years since we heard the first lecture on Christian Science in our church. I invited my husband to go with me; he did so, and became convinced of the truth of Christian Science. Since that evening we attend the Sunday services and Wednesday meetings. My husband went to the same practitioner, and was healed of all his ailments. We threw away all material remedies, and since last January we are members of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, in Chicago.

Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God, and I wish to thank our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her inspiring books, which have given us a spiritual understanding of the Scriptures. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science.—Marie Mattern, Chicago, Ill.
