It is about five years since I first sought and received help from Christian Science. At that time I was in bondage to many physical diseases. Although a young woman, I could not do an ordinary day's work without suffering from fatigue. I spent all my vacations, which amounted to over three months every year, in resting. I was hampered and limited at every turn by the belief in so-called physical laws, which said, "Thou shalt not." The first year in which I knew something about the teachings of Christian Science, I felt a sense of freedom I had never known before. For the first time in several years I enjoyed going out evenings, and felt no ill effects from it afterward. I also found out that I could work hard all day and not be tired at night. A burden of care had been rolled away. My sister, who saw a great improvement in my disposition as well as in my health, began with me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The clear teachings about God in the chapter on "Prayer," first convinced us that our understanding of God as infinite Love had been indeed limited; that a belief in material law, so called, and in material causation, had practically ruled out of the universe the God of whom Jesus spoke when he said, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

About a year after I began the study of the Christian Science text-book, I awoke one morning to the realization that I was free from a chronic disease that had caused me much annoyance for many years, and that I had been free for several weeks. All the evidences of the disease had passed entirely away, and I could not remember when they had disappeared. Since then I have seen many diseases destroyed by the word of Truth, as revealed in the Scriptures and in our text-book. Headache, catarrhal colds, chronic sore throat, etc., selfishness, jealousy, and malice, I have seen healed through Christian Science. Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science has brought to a weary world the fulfilment of this promise. It has shown mankind that this truth is of God, Spirit, and that mankind have been held in bondage to sickness and sin by human beliefs, by material thinking, not by the law of God. It has pointed the way to spiritual thinking, and has thereby struck at the foundation of sin, disease, and death.

I am grateful to our dear Leader, who has shown me how to live by teaching me that Life is God, Spirit. This debt of gratitude can never be fully acknowledged in words. It can be met only as I come to know God better and to serve Him more faithfully.—Mary Thorn, Elgin, Ill.
