In February, 1885, I was instantly healed, through Christian Science, of what a physician, under whose treatment I had been for six months, called incurable uterine cancer. Prior to that time we had employed different doctors, who differed in their diagnosis, but all agreed that it was a trouble which could not be healed. The last physician whom we employed was from the women's hospital in Chicago, and she advised me to go to the hospital, at which place I was to remain a year, provided there was a possibility of getting help, but no hope of recovery was held out to me. To my husband they said it was only a question of time, for I could not live. At this crisis Christian Science came to our rescue through a workman who came to our home to attend to some plumbing, and seeing my sick condition he advised me to try Christian Science, saying he knew of some remarkable cases which had been healed by it. We grasped at it eagerly, although we had very little money left—all had gone for medical treatment. The day when I received my first treatment we threw out five bottles of medicine which had been filled that morning, and that was the last I ever took, now twenty years ago. When the first treatment was given the pain in my head was so severe that I could not hold it up, but by the time the treatment was finished the pain had nearly disappeared. When my husband came home in the evening he found me preparing the supper, and the next day I walked two miles without pain or any difficulty, and I have been able ever since to walk with perfect ease.
The healing impressed me so much that I began to question at once as to the method, and I have been a student of Science and Health ever since my first introduction to it. Although I was instantly healed, I took treatment for eight days. Words fail to express our gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, through whom this Science has been given to the world, so that all who will may be healed physically, morally, and spiritually.
