About twelve years ago, when going downstairs, I slipped down two steps at once, which threw me heavily on one heel, dislocating several bones in my foot. It was very much swollen and very painful and I was not able to step on it. I walked with crutches and had medical treatment at home for eighteen months, with very little improvement. I then went to an eminent physician in Philadelphia, who gave me a support to wear in my shoe, to keep the bones in place. I could not step on the foot without the support, and had to bathe it several times every day with alcohol. Some years after this I met a lady who was a Christian Scientist, and as I was in a wretched condition, both mentally and physically, I asked for treatment. I had other ailments besides the trouble with my foot. The practitioner told me it was not necessary to wear the support, so I discarded it at once. My foot was made well and I never needed the support afterward. The other ailments—stomach trouble, insomnia, and astigmatism—were overcome in three weeks.
