At the age of sixteen years I had what was at that time called phthisic. As I grew older this disease became worse, and my parents tried various remedies and employed doctors, but I received no permanent help, not even relief. I became very weak and very much emaciated. Bronchitis and nervous dyspepsia developed, which became very alarming. I was so sick that I could not even swallow water without nausea, and the little food I ate seemed to produce excruciating pains. Soon there followed another affliction, which the doctors pronounced spinal headaches. These I had about nine years, the attacks coming on at intervals, each time being more violent, until they seemed unbearable. Besides this I had female weakness that was very severe.

During all these years I tried the skill of eleven physicians. The last doctor said that I could not live through another such attack, and he advised me to write my will. I then began making preparations to die, even to getting my grave-clothes ready. I felt the symptoms of another attack coming on, but at this time a lady asked me to try Christian Science, since all else had failed. I asked if I would have to give up all material remedies, and said I could not do that, as they were my life. She replied that in God was my Life, and after a few moments I concluded to accept help in Christian Science. I took my first treatment in the evening, and next morning I discovered. to my great surprise, that my breathing was entirely normal, and not only so, but that the bronchitis, the dyspepsia, and the spinal headaches had disappeared, and I have had no return of any of those troubles since.

For thirty-nine years I was under materia medica. and I was cured in Christian Science in three days. Words fail to express my gratitude to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Emma Broun, Cleveland. O.
