In March, 1905, I was suddenly seized with illness, and I rapidly grew very sick. After a few hours the evidences were such as to cause great fear in my family that the trouble might be erysipelas. I was under Christian Science treatment from the first, but because of the nature of the disease a physician was called to diagnose the case and report it to the health officer. He pronounced the case erysipelas of the head and face, and said that because of its severe nature and my advanced age (being seventy-six in a few days) he felt quite hopeless of my recovery. He was, however, a friend of the family and a man of liberal thought, so he kindly offered to help us in any way he could, and also asked to be allowed to call frequently and watch the case, as he said it would be most interesting to him to see it brought out by Christian Science.

Those who took care of me say that the appearance was dreadful, but the faithful Scientists who had charge of the case stood firm in their realization of the all-power of God and the perfection of His creation, although for a time most discouraging symptoms made their appearance. Notwithstanding this, just as the disease semed to reach its height, and when it was believed I must pass on,—as the doctor said he saw no possible chance of my rallying,—faith had its reward in demonstration. All at once the fever began to abate and rapidly passed off; and all the organs and functions quickly responded to the healing power of Truth. There was no sinking or weakness nor any of the expected complications, and my recovery was from this time very rapid. It seemed most wonderful to every one. Our physician friend, calling a few hours later, expressed his surprise and also his great pleasure in seeing a case like that brought out in Science.

My gratitude to God is very great, also to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the great truth taught in Science and Health.
