The salvation taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus...
Portland (Me.) Evening Express
The salvation taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus was a complete salvation not only from sin but from sickness. A denial of this would limit the power of God, and also be contrary to Bible history. Had it been in Christ Jesus' plan for his followers to resort to drugs or hygiene for the alleviation of physical ills, he who ministered to their temporal as well as spiritual wants would have so instructed them. His teachings were, however, invariably and unmistakably that every human need is met by God, Spirit, and that such need can be met here and now in exact proportion to one's understanding of the truth he taught. We agree with our critic that the overcoming of sin is more important than the cure of sickness, and also admit that many come to Christian Science primarily for the physical healing alone; but this, as in Jesus' time, is a natural and legitimate means to an end, as it is the rule that Christian Science treatment incites a desire for holiness and a consequent loathing of sin.
