From childhood I had suffered from yearly attacks of hay...
From childhood I had suffered from yearly attacks of hay fever. When I first heard of Christian Science I did not think of it as a means of bringing me out of physical bondage, but by reading and studying our text-book I was completely healed of the distressing disease.
The following extract proved most helpful in overcoming the ailment: "What an abuse of natural beauty to say that a rose, the smile of God, can produce suffering! The joy of its presence, its beauty and fragrance should uplift the thought, and dissuade any sense of fear or fever. It is profane to fancy that the perfume of clover and the breath of new-mown hay may cause glandular inflammation, sneezing, and nasal pangs" (Science and Health, p. 175).

At this Thanksgiving season my heart overflows with gratitude when I recall the many blessings that are and have been mine since Christian Science first unfolded its meaning to me, ten years ago. I have endured many hardships and persecutions "for his name's sake," but have been amply rewarded for remaining faithful to Principle, when the many phases of error have been overcome through the application of the truth as given in Science and Health, and I am sure the hardships enable me to appreciate more fully Mrs. Eddy's efforts in behalf of humanity.
I am thankful for the healing that is done through Christian Science, and will give a few experiences that have come to me which may be helpful to others.
I have a relative who by an accident lost the sight of one eye. In after years the other eye became affected through sympathy, and at times she was almost blind. Christian Science treatment was tried, and after six weeks the patient was delighted to find she could see the stars with her "bad eye;" something she had not done for twenty-six years. After this healing, her nephew, who is an oculist, desired to examine her eyes, she permitted him to do so, and he pronounced the sight "about normal."
One night I awakened from a troubled sleep and found myself quite miserable. I turned thought as much as possible away from bodily conditions to the Truth of being, and seemingly drifted from one statement to another in Science, when suddenly this passage of Scripture came to me: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent," and I recalled the many places in the Bible where reference is made to works of healing done in the name of Jesus Christ. Then there burst upon my consciousness the importance of understanding the perfect man—the Christ idea; and I saw that this knowledge of the perfect reflection of God by man healed the sick. The promise of eternal life is two-fold,—that ye know both "the only true God" and the perfect man whom He has created.
Needless to say I was soon relieved of my pain and went to sleep. The next morning I was rejoicing in thought over my quick recovery and my new sense of Truth, and almost wondering why it so often happens when we are in the depths, the clearest glimpses of Truth come to us. Then this Scriptural passage answered my question: "For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." How happy I am to have "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" to teach me that "'Angels are God's impartations to man,—not messengers, or persons, but messages of the true idea of divinity, flowing into humanity" (p. 299).
