OUR "NEW NAME"

The new name beloved by thousands is the name "Christian Scientist." It is new in the sense that it was unknown before 1866 and new in its metaphysical interpretation because it transcends all material names.

To win this new name "Christian Scientist" we study, in addition to the Bible, our textbook, "Science, and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and our Leader's other works and strive to obey the rules she gives. We learn that the real and only creation is spiritual and complete, in accord with the first chapter of Genesis, which says, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." In this creation everything, including man, stems from Spirit and therefore is spiritual. The real man, or idea, of Spirit is as perfect as his originator, the Father-Mother God, and reflects the divine consciousness.

Material consciousness is as much a dream as is the counterfeit creation recorded in the second chapter of Genesis, where we are told that a mist arose and that man was formed from the dust of the ground. And it is the awakening from this false sense of being into the spiritual sense of existence which enables us to gain the new name "Christian Scientist."
