My gratitude for the better understanding...

My gratitude for the better understanding of God that Christian Science has brought me is boundless. As a youngster I had about every thing in the way of illness that came along. Good foundational teaching in a Protestant Sunday School had given me a great love for the Bible stories and a great faith in healing through prayer, but I had no idea how this healing could come about.

After high school I went to school in Kansas City, where I roomed with a girl who was interested in Christian Science. I attended church with her and started to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. With the light of Christian Science came a clearer understanding of the Bible, and I was healed in a very short time of a bad condition of the eyes. I had worn glasses since childhood. I did not analyze this healing until several months later, when I realized that I had been healed through the understanding of the definition of God given in the Glossary of Science and Health which reads (p. 587), "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle: Mind; Soul: Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."

The healing of a serious digestive disorder of several years' standing came more slowly. I have also had healings of influenza, colds, shingles, and an irritating rash. While visiting in a home where antagonism toward Christian Science was expressed. I became partially paralyzed and had great difficulty going up and down stairs. I was so protected in working out this problem that it was not noticed by those around me, and I was completely healed after a few hours of quiet study.
