HE SENDS HIS ANGEL

The chains, the prison watch and gates gave way
Before the angel that bade Peter rise
And follow him. No prison bond could stay
The angel's freeing hand. And Peter, wise
In faith and prayer, obeyed and followed out
And through one street—the straight and narrow one
Of consciousness devoid of fear and doubt—
And came unto himself, with bondage gone.

When angel thought illumines your dark night
Of prisoning ill and bids you wake and rise.
Pause not in questioning, but heed the light
And follow out where freedom's pathway lies.
The Lord has sent His angel—heed its call
And follow safely past each prison wall.
