AFFIRMATIVE TRUTH
"Truth is affirmative, and confers harmony," writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 418 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." And she goes on to expand her statement: "All metaphysical logic is inspired by this simple rule of Truth, which governs all reality. By the truthful arguments you employ, and especially by the spirit of Truth and Love which you entertain, you will heal the sick."
All that Truth includes is positive, constructive, affirmative. Affirmations of truth in the practice of Christian Science confirm what is eternally established. They declare the oneness and allness of God. They state His perfection, wisdom, love, His creative power, His ability to maintain His kingdom. His omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience. They maintain the perfection of God's handiwork and thus rule out as suppositional all that is finite, imperfect, and impure. The affirmations of Science hail man's intelligence as divine Mind's expression; they assert his joy, security, satisfaction, strength of character, his abundant supply, and his immortality. They declare him to be the worthy evidence of his creator, God.
Christ Jesus, our Exemplar, was constantly affirming reality and never forsook his positive standpoint. He taught us to pray, "Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever." He said (John 5:20), "The Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth." And at Lazarus' tomb he declared (John 11:42), "I knew that thou hearest me always." The Master's accomplishments proved the healing power that an affirmative, constructive attitude of mind, based upon Spirit's allness, confers. They taught the lesson which Christian Science emphasizes, that being is subjective and that individuals manifest in their experience and in their environment whatever they entertain in consciousness.
