The Christian Science Reading Room

The infinitude of being is the fact of true existence. God's boundlessness is reflected throughout His spiritual creation, and is evident in the unfoldment, the eternality, and the freshness which characterize His every manifestation. Through Christian Science men learn this truth about reality, and through the utilization of Christian Science may escape from selfishness into the large and lovely opportunities resultant from knowing God aright.

Because the expression of unlimited good is the spontaneous function of man in God's image, Christian Scientists are bound to be bearers of good news. So marvelous a message of salvation have they heard, so abundantly is its promise being fulfilled in countless lives, that they naturally seek to share it with mankind. The means for doing so has been provided through the inspired leadership of Mary Baker Eddy. For she, having the humility, the intelligence, and the unselfed love to discover in Christian Science the divine law of Life which Jesus practiced, was given also the wisdom to found an institution designed to perpetuate and extend her discovery. The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, with its branch churches throughout the world, stands for authentic Christianity, which satisfies humanity's craving for the truth. Not only does it protect the revealed truth from adulteration at the hands of human opinion, but it offers to mankind an organization suited to the dignity and desire which belong to holy purpose, and a means for carrying out those aspirations fundamental in all right thinking. One phase of this institutional activity is the establishment of Christian Science Reading Rooms.

In accord with Articles XXI, Section 1, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, maintain Reading Rooms where the Bible, Mrs. Eddy's writings, and authorized Christian Science literature may be read, borrowed, or purchased. But even as a Christian Science church is much more than the building which shelters its activities, so is the Reading Room more than a free dispensary of the benefits which come from reading and meditating upon the Bible, Mrs. Eddy's writings, and related publications. As a church is really the demonstration of loyalty to the revealed truth on the part of its members, so is a Reading Room one important evidence that their concept of God's love for all is sufficiently practical.
