The benefits which I have received from the study and...
The benefits which I have received from the study and application of Christian Science have been numerous, but this is the first time that I have availed myself of the opportunity to express my gratitude in the form of a written testimony. I was introduced to Christian Science about thirty years ago by my grandfather, who took me to Sunday school. There I learned some of the basic truths which have sustained me through many trials, and these experiences, in turn, have brought me to the point where there is not the slightest question in my mind as to the efficacy of this Science when it is sincerely and properly applied. For this alone I give thanks. When my grandfather passed on, soon after I first attended Sunday school, there was no one to encourage my continuing, rather the contrary; but the attraction of Spirit remained until I reached an age when there were other seeming attractions. However, even in the bypaths where I wandered, I enjoyed divine Love's protection, as now, in retrospect, I well know.
An opportunity came, after I was married and had two small children, to make an important decision. The children were seriously ill, and the physician's outlook for them was most discouraging. Then I realized that I had been looking in the wrong direction for help. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner. She came at once, and had not been there many minutes before I knew the atmosphere had changed, and I was again on familiar ground. The physician, who had said that he could do no more for the children, was dismissed. The next day the children were able to be up, and soon were well. During my conversation with the practitioner I mentioned that I should like to be free of the smoking habit, which I had acquired. In less than a week's time I was completely healed. Since that time my four children and I have had many healings of various kinds, some with the help of a practitioner and some without. Some of these healings were instantaneous.
About two years ago my eight-year-old boy jumped on a rusty nail, which went into his foot. He was playing in the yard of a physician, who treated his foot and, as an added precaution against lockjaw, gave him a tetanus injection. We were preparing to start on a trip and were warned of the reactions which inevitably followed the injection. I called a practitioner. Soon after we started on our trip, the boy began to complain of feeling ill. We had to stop and wait for someone whom we were to meet, and there was time to read aloud the religious article in The Christian Science Monitor which I had taken with me. It was most pertinent and met our need of the moment, breaking the mesmerism of the false claim immediately. There was no further sign of any disturbance.
