I give my experience with a heart full of love and gratitude...
I give my experience with a heart full of love and gratitude to God, to our dearly beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to a loving teacher and kind and patient practitioner who have helped me many times to understand and obey the law of God, the religion of divine Love—Christian Science.
I experienced the power of God's law three years ago. While I was transferring from one streetcar to another, a motorman started his car against a stop light without warning of any kind. I was caught between his car and the one standing ahead with the brakes set. My limbs were crushed from the hips down. Instantly, my thought turned to God for strength, and then to "the scientific statement of being" found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. When I was released, the sharp suggestion of crushed limbs and amputation came to me. This thought was quickly corrected through the realization of God's presence and power.
I was taken to a near-by doctor's office for examination. I was there but a short time when he said to me, "You are a Christian Scientist, aren't you?" I was surprised at the question, for I had not spoken a word. After asking the name of my practitioner he offered to call her for me. He was obviously less fearful when he knew I was having help from a Christian Science practitioner. From a medical point of view the condition was very alarming and critical, but after an examination the doctor stated there were no bones broken and I could be taken home. On the third day, after reading the religious article in The Christian Science Monitor entitled, "Count Your Blessings," I arose from my bed and walked unaided. All through the experience I suffered very little pain. My healing was soon complete.
