"God called the firmament Heaven"

In the first chapter of Genesis we read that God created a firmament to "divine the waters from the waters," and that "God called the firmament Heaven."

In the Glossary in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 586), Mary Baker Eddy has defined "firmament" in part as "spiritual understanding." Not only does the attainment of spiritual understanding bring harmony into one's life, but the understanding itself is divinely and inseparably united to eternal harmony; and Christian Science shows that eternal harmony is heaven.

To some extent Christian Scientists throughout the world are daily demonstrating this truth in their own individual experience, and witnessing the disappearance of the false physical evidence of disease and inharmony simultaneously with the influx of a degree of understanding of the true nature of God, good, and of the relation existing between God and His beloved idea, man.
