Norsk Jernbane-Avholdsblad,

In the Norsk Jernbane-Avholdsblad, an extract from a book gives a misleading impression of Christian Science.

Christian Science maintains, in accordance with the Bible, that God is Spirit, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, eternal. From this it follows that all which God has created is made in the likeness of Himself, and must be spiritual, eternal, and good. Whence, then, comes evil, the material, temporal, and mutable? Can God create anything so wholly contrary to His own nature, or can there be a power besides God, when God is omnipotent?

Jesus said of evil: "He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him…He is a liar, and the father of it." Paul wrote, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." This would be impossible, if evil were as powerful and real as good. But because evil is a lie, it has no real existence and has power only as long as one believes in it. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," said Jesus.
