Sharing Spiritual Activity

A certain class never overlooks the central importance of the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the questions and answers resulting from its study and discussion. It is expected, and usually with justification, that the entire Lesson-Sermon will be read by each pupil during the week in order that all may come to class well and intelligently prepared.

Much stress is laid on the spiritual fact that Mind unfolds its ideas to the individual student; that Mind is really the only instructor or teacher. When this is clearly perceived the joyous responsibility of all members becomes apparent. The whole process of teaching and learning is then seen to rest on the basis of listening, hearing, and sharing.

A different section of the Lesson is allotted to each pupil, to prepare with special thoughtfulness and care. During class the pupil may either present this section, by asking the other pupils questions based upon the references contained in it, or give an explication of it. This method has aroused keen interest in the Lesson-Sermon and has brouhgt to the surface questions which might otherwise have remained unasked. If the students overlook certain points deemed vital, the teacher later sums these up.
