In gratitude to God, I give this testimony

In gratitude to God, I give this testimony. A few years ago my small daughter, then a few months old, had a very badly swollen eye, which was discharging. I helped her to the best of my understanding in Christian Science, but the trouble was not overcome. I then asked a practitioner to help her, but after a week the condition remained unchanged.

Because of the law regarding infection I had to call a doctor. When he saw the child he said that she must have drops in the eye every two hours, day and night, and even then it could not heal for weeks, perhaps months, and she would probably lose the sight of her eye. The following day the doctor came and said, "The child must have an operation at once." I asked him if he would wait just another day to see if the eye healed. He was very kind and agreed to this if I would take full responsibility, because it was such a serious case. The practitioner was told of the condition, and was asked to continue treatment. Then I threw away all the medicine which the doctor had given me. That night I put the child to bed with a clean handkerchief over the face and eye instead of all the bandages.

When I went to her the next morning, I admit I was rather fearful of what I might find, so for a few moments I did mental work to know she was, in reality, God's perfect child. The following passage came to my thought (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 407): "In Science, all being is eternal, spiritual, perfect, harmonious in every action. Let the perfect model be present in your thoughts instead of its demoralized opposite." As I picked her up I noticed the handkerchief had fallen aside, and I saw she was completely healed. There was not even a scar where the eye had been bleeding.
