"Be ye separate"

There is a command of God followed by a promise in II Corinthians: "Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you." These words are pertinent today.

Although it sometimes is wise to leave the presence of those who insist in pressing evil concepts upon us, persons who have fled from the society of their fellows, seeking escape from unhappy situations and the snares of the flesh, have seldom done more than become unhappy ascetics. How can one escape from wrong thoughts by running away from the world and becoming a recluse?

We need to know the nature of "the unclean thing" before we can separate ourselves from it. Is it not in the last analysis the lie that life is in matter? The dream of material creation results in sin and disease of every sort, and culminates in a belief of death. The human mind is ever seeking among the phenomena of this material dream for release from the fluctuating beliefs of mortal mind. When material means fail us we turn to the loving Father-Mother of all, God, who is ever graciously waiting for the prodigal thought to waken and turn toward home.
