Signs of the Times

Topic: Character Building

[From the Journal-Herald, Dayton, Ohio]

When the soul, buffeted by circumstance and weary of seeking permanent pleasure in the realm of vanishing joys, turns to the Lord of things eternal, it has gone far. Yet it has much to learn. For the soul must be cleansed of many ills before it can fully belong to the King of splendors. Fears and their far-reaching shadows must go before the radiance of His presence may be established. Arrogant greed must be vanquished, and sly selfishness hiding behind a mask of virtue must be dispelled.

Pride must be tumbled from its height, and the altar of humility must be built in pride's court. Contentions must vanish before Love can reign to the full.
