"The inspired Word"

"Search the scriptures," said Jesus to an audience well versed in the Biblical records of their day, "for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

What wonder that, failing to find a vital response in their own lives to the spiritual history of their race, they were unable to recognize him who came representing its amplification and fulfillment! That oneness with God, which the prophets had foretold, was being demonstrated before them, but their eyes were holden. The inspiration which is alone able to reveal the spiritual nature of the Christ was lacking.

"The Scriptures are very sacred. Our aim must be to have them understood spiritually, for only by this understanding can truth be gained," writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 547 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
