My Prayer Today

"The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer."—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 4.

I long had prayed that God might see my way
And take from me my earthly bonds and give
Me better things. But since I prayed amiss—
These things received I not. And now I try
To pray as Jesus prayed, who only asked
To know and do the will of God.

At dawn

Today I woke to pray—and as I walked
Into the light of God's infinitude,
I lost belief in earthly things and saw
Their fearful shadows disappear to nought—
As naturally as had the shades of night
Before the dawning day. I saw in Love's
Eternal good God's will fulfilled, and then
I knew that I, reflecting God alway,
Could know but good and do but good today!
