It has often been said of healings effected through Christian Science treatment that the patient would have regained his health anyway; that Christian Science had nothing to do with the good results. I experienced an instantaneous healing which might well have been likened to some healings of Jesus' time, and which no one could presume to say would have occurred without Christian Science treatment.
The illness was a serious case of influenza. I spent three days earnestly studying the writings of Mary Baker Eddy and the Christian Science periodicals. The condition seemed to get worse instead of better. I knew that every word I was reading was true, and that it was true in my case. This study destroyed my belief in the discordant physical condition, and brought a great flood of light into my thought. Then, in less than one minute, the whole discordant condition vanished. My breathing was suddenly free and clear, all pain had disappeared, and I had my full strength. There was no period of greadual improvement; the healing was immediate.
Christian Science teaches, and proves by actual demonstration, that sickness is not a condition of matter but of mortal mind, an erroneous thought entertained. In my case, if the physical illness had been real it could not have disappeared so quickly and completely.
