Just after an extraodinary proof of the healing power...
Just after an extraodinary proof of the healing power of Christian Science, and when a greater realization of man's oneness with God brought the light of peace, security, and hope, I found myself without a position and without money, but, I am grateful to say, without the slightest fear. I knew that Christian Science would solve this problem, for more serious troubles, such as disease and dissipation, had been corrected for me by the application of Truth.
First, I knew that I must do what was humanly right, under the circumstances. I sublet my apartment so that I could pay the rent on the lease I held. The management of a boardinghouse in the neighborhood owed me money. This made it possible for me to live in that house until the debt was paid. Although this was not a place where I wanted to live, because of its environment, before very long, and because of constant study, I was happier there than I had ever been before. I was learning more about God from the Bible and from the writings of our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. At first I felt superior to the people in the house, but soon I became friendly toward them, and before I left, two of them came to me for help in Christian Science.
The major part of my study was devoted to the definition of God, which Mrs. Eddy gives us in our textbook, Science and Health, on page 465. I studied these synonyms carefully, with the aid of the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's writings, and began to realize that each one has distinet qualities, that these qualities are constantly expressed, and that these qualities were my supply. I understood more clearly that I must express these qualities to the very best of my ability, in my human experience. I found myself doing this to some extent, and then the happiness came. Self-will was lessening each day. I trusted God more. Once I refused a position because it did not seem right for me to accept it, and when I got to my room I found that I had only five cents in my pocket. Again I was grateful to learn that I was relying fearlessly upon Principle.
