Sunday School Work

A student of Christian Science, while yet a beginner in its study and application, was appointed to teach in a Christian Science Sunday School. Being very anxious to succeed in this undertaking, he went into the matter of preparing the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly very carefully each week, and sought ways and means to make Christian Science appealing and interesting to the pupils in his class.

After about a year in this work, it dawned on his consciousness that his presentation of the facts of being each Sunday was interesting and successful, not because of the human steps he had taken to prepare the lesson, but rather because of his own consercation to Truth throughout the week. He found that when he not only held to his program of daily study and metaphysical work, but also made a determined effort to use the teachings of Christian Science in overcoming every appearance of error in his own personal life, on Sunday morning the Lesson-Sermon was clearly unfolded. His questions and answers and statements of Truth became more sincere and convincing than mere academic labor could have made them.

Jesus affirmed the Christ when he said to John's messengers, "Tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached." Likewise, in a degree at least, the Sunday school teachers must mainfest the "signs following" in their daily life, that their teaching may be more than merely academic.
