"My Father worketh hitherto"
Christ Jesus said, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." A Christian Scientist in business has the constant opportunity of proving the truth of Jesus' statement in his daily experience. Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 94), "Jesus taught but one God, one Spirit, who makes man in the image and likeness of Himself,—of Spirit, not of matter." So we learn that it was Jesus' clear sense of God as Spirit and of man as spiritual, God's image and likeness, that made it possible for him to declare, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." He knew that man's activity reflects the activity of divine Mind.
What a glorious truth to recognize and apply in our everyday business! How free and untiring one's activity when he realizes that his "Father worketh hitherto," and that his work is to reflect the activity of Mind!
A young student in Christian Science, who was feeling a great sense of responsibility in her daily work, found her burden lifted as she saw that her real work was God's work; that the responsibility was God's; and that her part was to express the perfect activity of Mind. Once, when the same student was working out a business problem, it was pointed out to her that what she really wanted—no matter what the situation seemed to demand—was the spiritually right. That thought, "I want what is right," held to in her own thinking, has solved many business problems, and has time and again lifted her thought out of the mesmeric belief of many minds and human will power into a realization of the supremacy of the will and power of God, the one Mind. We have, in reality, only that which is right, for our "Father worketh hitherto," and we can learn to reflect the power and activity of the Father.
