I should like to tell of a healing which I received through Christian Science some time ago, for which I am very grateful.
For several months I had been suffering from pain and stiffness in the back, which made rising from a reclining position difficult. The condition apparently was not muscular, nor of the bones, but internal and organic. Having been a student of Christian Science for a number of years, I did not become alarmed, but tried to treat the case as we are taught to do in Christian Science. The difficulty did not yield, although I obtained some relief from pain and was able to continue my usual activities. Noting the delay in healing, my wife advised me to ask for help from a practitioner. I know that this would have been the wise course to pursue; that there is nothing in the teachings of Christian Science to justify or authorize delay or neglect in the effectual treatment of disease. However, I rather stubbornly did not follow the advice, but continued my efforts to heal myself.
One Saturday afternoon, coming home from business, I saw some boys playing ball, one moment swooping to the ground and the next leaping into the air, and I saw that this would have been difficult for me to do. It was made clear to me that I could not afford to be incapacitated; and I decided that if I did not obtain a healing by the next day I should seek help from a practitioner. The next morning I arose early to do some studying and to work on the subject.
