It is with a very grateful heart that I give this testimony. For many years I suffered from gallstones. I had tried a long period of fasting, but to no avail. Then a visit to an eminent surgeon was arranged, and an operation suggested; but I felt that there were other means of relief, so I drifted on, still suffering. I know now why I went through that veil of darkness, and why I then could not get my freedom. On page 453 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read, "Honesty is spiritual power," and when I reviewed the situation from the point of honesty, I had to admit that Christian Science had helped me in the past; yet, in spite of these proofs, I had turned away from the Lord, imagining this to be too big a problem for Science. I thank God for opening my eyes to the blessed power of Truth. One day I read in the Sentinel the grateful testimony of one who had been held in bondage to this same belief, but had been freed through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science. I waited no longer, knowing this to be an answer to my prayer. I made an appointment with a practitioner and was lovingly and compassionately received. This meeting took place on a Friday, and I can say that I lived in heaven that week end. I felt the burden of suffering drop from me, and with a very grateful heart I was able to say on Monday, "I am healed."

I knew then that if I wanted to seek Truth, and was really grateful for being led out of the darkness of materiality into the light of ever-present reality, I must study my textbook, apply the truth as it unfolded in my consciousness, and help others as I had been helped.

One night when I fell down a flight of stairs, and the flesh called loudly for sympathy, the understanding of the definition of "Mind" (ibid., p. 591) enabled me to get up and carry out an engagement. I have also had proofs of God's loving care and protection when motor car accidents threatened; also once when I was staying in a hotel which caught fire.
