Twenty years ago a tiny growth appeared on the crown...
Twenty years ago a tiny growth appeared on the crown of my head. I knew nothing of Christian Science at that time, and gave the matter no thought. The growth slowly grew larger and caused some annoyance when combing my hair. About fourteen years ago I was obliged to go to a sanitarium for six weeks. While there, I inquired about having this growth removed. The surgeon told me there was great danger of infection in removing a wen from the scalp, so I did nothing about it.
About five years ago this condition had become very painful, and as I had learned something about Christian Science I asked for help from a practitioner. The pain was relieved temporarily, but the wen continued to grow. It was very difficult to cover it with my hair, and was most uncomfortable when I lay down. A year and a half later I was serving as Second Reader in a Christian Science church. I again asked for help, as the pain was continuous. In a talk with the practitioner before a Sunday morning service, the error was uncovered. For a second I was resentful at being told that I was holding such a wrong thought, but instantly when I acknowledged it my consciousness was flooded with the healing truth. At the end of a week the flesh had grown together under the growth and I lifted the wen from the scalp. I experienced a great sense of freedom, and my gratitude for this healing cannot be expressed in words.
Now, when discordant conditions manifest themselves, I turn the searchlight of Truth upon my consciousness and try to replace the wrong thoughts with right thoughts, and to know the real man is reflecting God at all times. I know that God's law is always operating, and that there is but one cause, God; therefore, the effect must be perfect man, who manifests and expresses love, forgiveness, humility, faith, happiness, health, and all the qualities of divine Mind.
