The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

New Orleans, Louisiana (Third Church).

Lecturer: Judge Frederick C. Hill; introduced by George W. Prutsman, who said:—

Christian Science entered into my home a most unwelcome guest to me, for I believed it to be of the devil. My father, whome I respected and loved, was a local preacher in the Methodist Church. He told me that only weak-minded people were interested in Christian Science; and my pastor, in whom I had great confidence, told me it was of Satan and for me to leave it alone. I had not read Science and Health for myself, but was content to accept this verdict, until it came into my home; and, as I believed, to destroy the sanctity of my home. I did all I could to drive it out; but failing in that, and being genuinely interested to discover how it had gained such a hold on my family, I began to see a change. I became more tolerant as many phases of inharmony and many physical discords were met and overcome without resort to material means. I began to read Science and Health. I was no longer a "doubting Thomas"—I had seen, and I did believe, and have been grateful ever since.
